Terms of use

1. Purpose
The Files Tech apps (App Manager Tech, PDF Tech, Read Files Tech, Pass Tech, Notes Tech, Agenda Tech, SMS Tech) are free and open-source software, made available free of charge by Patrice Haltaya, a private individual, on a non-professional basis. These terms apply to these apps and to the files-tech.com website.
2. Licence
The source code of each app is distributed under the Apache License 2.0. The full text is in the LICENSE file of each repository; where this page and the licence differ, the licence prevails.
You may use, study, modify and redistribute this software under that licence, in particular by keeping the copyright notices and the NOTICE file. Third-party components remain under their own licences, listed in the THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md file of each repository.
3. Free of charge
The apps are free: no paid version, no subscription, no in-app purchase, no advertising. The project accepts no payment and no donation.
4. Official sources
The official versions are the ones linked from files-tech.com (APKs hosted on GitHub Releases) and, for the apps published there, the ones on F-Droid. Before installing a downloaded APK, you can compare its SHA-256 fingerprint with the one published in the release notes.
An APK signed by F-Droid and an APK signed by the publisher cannot update each other. Switching from one to the other requires uninstalling the app, which erases its data: export it first.
The publisher is not responsible for modifications made by a third party, nor for the conditions under which a third party redistributes an app.
5. Software provided "as is"
In accordance with sections 7 and 8 of the Apache License 2.0, and to the extent permitted by law, the apps are provided "as is", with no warranty of uninterrupted operation, of freedom from errors, of compatibility with every device or Android version, or of fitness for a particular purpose.
To the extent permitted by law, the publisher cannot be held liable for damage resulting in particular from:
- data loss where no backup was made;
- a forgotten master password, PIN or passphrase: the encryption is designed so that nobody, not even the publisher, can recover your data without them;
- triggering a deliberate erasure feature (panic mode, panic code, data deletion);
- installing from an unofficial source or a modified version;
- a rooted or compromised device, or one whose system is no longer updated.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
6. Backups
You remain responsible for backing up your data. For the apps that encrypt your data (Pass Tech, Notes Tech, Agenda Tech, SMS Tech, the Read Files Tech vault), export it regularly and keep your unlock secrets somewhere safe.
7. Specific uses
- SMS Tech: your carrier may charge for SMS and MMS according to your plan. The emergency mode and Safety call depend on the network, coverage, battery and phone settings: they do not replace calling the emergency services (112).
- Pass Tech: the anti-coercion features, panic mode and inheritance are protection tools; they do not guarantee an outcome in every situation.
- Agenda Tech: reminders depend on Android, whose battery saving can delay them; do not rely on a single reminder for an important deadline.
- App Manager Tech: tracker detection and the privacy score are automatic indications based on known signatures; they can be wrong, and are not a legal assessment of a third-party app. The uninstalls and clean-ups you start are your own actions.
You agree to use the apps in accordance with the law and the rights of others.
8. Changes and support
The publisher may release new versions, change or remove features, or stop developing an app. Neither support nor updates are guaranteed; the source code remains available under the licence.
9. Names and logos
The "Files Tech" name, the app names and their logos are not covered by the Apache License 2.0 (section 6). A modified version must be published under another name and with another logo.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may change; the date is at the top of the page.
11. Applicable law
These terms are governed by French law. The French version prevails.
